who was I kidding thinking that I could be a regular blogger. Maybe we should define regular blogger, if it's once every three months then I'm hanging in there. Summer is absolutely wonderful and I'm sooo sad it is time to get back to reality. As my kids get older I realize the time flies even faster and we don't have all the time in the world unless we are sitting at the poolside or by a swimming hole, at the golf course or on the lake, time stops for a moment and we just get to enjoy each other.
I spent the day with a friend of mine from high school, she lives in Washington D.C. Her husband is an attorney out there who made partner in his law firm 6 years ago and just recently made shareholder, or something fancy. He works all over the world, has apartments and a driver, you get the picture. I'm sure his salary is in the millions. She says he will be in Germany for the next four years, off and on. We talked about the difference in our lifestyles, (although, to her credit, she is not extravagant), but she does have a maid and babysitter, lawn guys, bug guys, accountant, etc. I spent the morning running to the discount bread store, going to the cannery to get over ripe peaches (because they are free) and getting a 25 pound bag of sugar and flour so I can spend my days cooking from scratch to save money. Broc spends his evenings trying to get his truck working, spraying the endless ants, doing a few side jobs and even coloring my hair, all to save a buck. I wonder what it would be like to have a pedicure whenever I wanted, to have my house clean when the kids and I didn't work our tails off, even getting my lawn mowed without a sigh from the boys. I thought, wouldn't it be nice to have so much money that I could pay somebody else to pay my bills, or we could go to Hawaii, even buy a car that didn't overheat. As always, the thought is no more than a thought, I'm so thankful for our simple life. I get to take a walk with my husband nightly and he gets to sleep right next to me every night. He's with us for dinner and meets us at the park, he's super dad and super husband and I wouldn't trade all the money in the world for my best friend!
Enough with the mushy business, a quick funny. Jake tells me that Jackson (neighbor boy) found some new night games on the internet and was reading the rules to the neighborhood kids. It's a game called snugglebug and Jackson thought it would be fun. Immediately red flags went up and I was interested to learn more about this snugglebug game. Jake says "it's the dumbest game I've ever heard of, Mom." I was glad to learn they had not played "snugglebug." What you do is get into a dark room (what night game web site is he looking at) and someone is the "snugglebug." The "snugglebug" feels (yikes!) his way around in the dark room until he finds someone to "snuggle" with. Then (these are Jakes words coming exactly how Jackson read the rules) you go over to them and hug them... or other." I busted up. He said the "or other" part like what the heck does that have to do with anything. Clearly he had NO idea of the intentions in this game and could not understand why one would play this game. I was glad for a very innocent little boy.
It might be another couple of months before I write again so before I sign off, a quick message to my boys (maybe someday they'll read this). Life is beautiful, our family has more blessings than we could ever dream of, you guys are the best.
